Catching Dreams

Book Description

In a rare memoir about the Negro Leagues and its celebrated players, Frazier "Slow" Robinson offers an inspiring and often entertaining view of the black baseball diamond through a catcher's mask. In 1939, at the age of 29—after playing professional baseball for twelve years—Frazier Robinson caught the legendary Satchel Paige in barnstorming games from New Orleans to Walla Walla. Robinson played several more seasons in the Negro Leagues before finishing his career in Canada. While his career was a solid one, it was less spectacular than that of his friend and Hall-of-Famer, Satchel Paige, and so more typical of the experience of most Negro Leaguers. Richly embroidered with the threads of black society and of life as a black athlete in a racially divided nation, Robinson recounts his long career with the skill and ease of a natural storyteller. He covers, in remarkable detail, the personal perspective of the men, the teams, and the times that shaped this uniquely American subculture. From playing catcher for obscure industrial teams to barnstorming with Satchel Paige, he chronologically traces his nationwide path through the 1920s, '30s, '40s, and early '50s. The Foreword by John "Buck" O'Neil and Introduction by Gerald Early place Robinson squarely in the world of sports, African American culture, and American history.

Entertainment Computing - ICEC 2010

Book Description

The 9th International Conference on Entertainment Computing (ICEC 2010) was held in September 2010 in Seoul Korea. After Pittsburgh (2008) and Paris (2009), the event returned to Asia. The conference venue was the COEX Exhibition Hall in one of the most vivid and largest cities of the world. This amazing mega-city was a perfect location for the c- ference. Seoul is on the one hand a metropolitan area with modern industries, univer- ties and great economic power. On the other hand, it is also a place with a very fas- nating historical and cultural background. It bridges the past and the future as well as east and west. Entertainment computing also aims at building bridges from technology to leisure, education, culture and work. Entertainment computing at its core has a strong focus on computer games. However, it is not only about computer games. The last ICEC c- ferences have shown that entertainment computing is a much wider field. For instance in games, technology developed for games can be used for a wide range of appli- tions such as therapy or education. Moreover, entertainment does not necessarily have to be understood as games. Entertainment computing finds its way to stage perfo- ances and all sorts of new interactive installations.

And finally, the Doorway of Dreams, leading to the most ancient ways of remembering who you truly are. Learning to quest with collage is all about playing with colors, signs and synchronicity. A Daze in the Life

Book Description

This book is made up of mostly poems and also short stories and sayings. This book is a testimony of my life. I am sixty nine years old. My life has been years of bondage, hurts, burtialities and misjudgements, as well as rape and mind control, through the misappropriate efforts of my stepfather and my natural mother. I am not asking for sympathy, for I have made it thus far through the blessings of God and people around me such as my son, daughter-in-law, my two sisters and my brother and others who have stood by me in faith and helped me to over come up to this point. My book walks along my life in telling the story as well as showing that through it all there were days of sunshine, and days when I could smile. Maybe this book will help you in times, when you need encouragement, and to know, that with trust, and belief in God, you too, can make it. Thank you for your support. Arlene Brassfield
