Catching Kent

Book Description

After spending time in Ireland, Kent Ashton has returned to America. It’s his chance at a new start, and he’s determined to go all the way to California–far away from his past and the list of regrets he’s left behind. But while in Omaha, Nebraska, thieves rob him and leave him for dead in an alley. That’s when Dave Larson finds him and brings him home so he can recover. As soon as Kent is better, he plans to continue his journey to California. But Dave’s daughter, Rose Larson, has other plans. She’s bound and determined to make him her husband. Sure, he might protest, claim he’s not the right one for her, that she’s better off with someone else. But she’s not one to give up, and if she has to chase him to get him to the altar, then so be it. Author’s Note: Kent Ashton was the villain in Falling In Love With Her Husband. He was also the main character in Kent Ashton's Backstory which tells his version of events during Falling In Love With Her Husband.

Kent Ashton's Backstory

Book Description

In Falling In Love With Her Husband, Kent Ashton was the villain… Or at least that is how Ann Statesman and Todd Brothers saw him. But was he really? Why did he really end his courtship with Ann? Was his scandalous behavior with Rebecca Johnson the reason he became engaged to her? And what compelled him to go after Ann after she married Todd and moved to North Dakota? This novella tells why he did what he did. And it paves the way for the book that will lead to his own happily ever after. Please note: This is the prequel to Catching Kent. It does not have a “happily ever after” ending. The happily ever after comes in Catching Kent.

The Kokanee Obsession

Book Description

Kokanee fishing is an obsession and as you can see by the name of the book, I am addicted. One of the most frustrating things for a Kokaholic to hear is that the fish are just not biting. Many times I have been at the ramp launching my boat when some forlorn fisherman will tell me that the bite is off. "Should have been here last week, it was real hot." is another statement that I hear fairly often. I am a cup is half full kind of guy, not a half empty sort of person! I always tell my wife after such an encounter, "I just don't think those guys know how to fish for Kokanee." It has always been a frustration for me to hear those words because there is so little information out there specifically targeting kokanee. To date, my only effective method of teaching Kokanee techniques has been to take a non believer out fishing. My hope is that through this book, I can in effect take you fishing without leaving the dock. Kokanee can be a very frustrating fish to pursue, and without a little coaching, there is a long learning curve to get to the point you are regularly catching fish. My goal with this book is to help shorten the learning curve and in a sense give you a running start. By understanding the seasons and the methods that work within those seasons, you can put more and larger fish in the box day in and day out. Tight Lines and Good Fishing! ~Kent Cannon~

Catching Dreams

Book Description

In a rare memoir about the Negro Leagues and its celebrated players, Frazier "Slow" Robinson offers an inspiring and often entertaining view of the black baseball diamond through a catcher's mask. In 1939, at the age of 29—after playing professional baseball for twelve years—Frazier Robinson caught the legendary Satchel Paige in barnstorming games from New Orleans to Walla Walla. Robinson played several more seasons in the Negro Leagues before finishing his career in Canada. While his career was a solid one, it was less spectacular than that of his friend and Hall-of-Famer, Satchel Paige, and so more typical of the experience of most Negro Leaguers. Richly embroidered with the threads of black society and of life as a black athlete in a racially divided nation, Robinson recounts his long career with the skill and ease of a natural storyteller. He covers, in remarkable detail, the personal perspective of the men, the teams, and the times that shaped this uniquely American subculture. From playing catcher for obscure industrial teams to barnstorming with Satchel Paige, he chronologically traces his nationwide path through the 1920s, '30s, '40s, and early '50s. The Foreword by John "Buck" O'Neil and Introduction by Gerald Early place Robinson squarely in the world of sports, African American culture, and American history.
