Cationic Surfactants

Book Description

This work focuses on the environmental availability and effects, toxicological properties and numerous applications of cationic surfactants, detaling the modern analytical processes by which this important class of compounds may be studied. It discusses the types of microorganisms that are susceptible or refractory to the actions of cationic agents.

Cationic Surfactants

Book Description

Focusing on the solution physical chemistry and surface properties of cationic surfactants, three major sections examine the properties of cationic surfactants themselves both in solution and at interfaces, the interactions of cationic surfactants with other materials, and applications of cationic s

Cationic Surfactants

Book Description

Cationic surfactants, comprising a positively charged hydrophilic head, have been one of the most promising compounds due to their ability to produce a range of supramolecular aggregates of various kinds through self-organization in different media. They are used often in the chemical, industrial, pharmaceutical, environmental as well as biological fields. This book provides an overview of properties, uses and toxicity of cationic surfactants. Chapter One addresses the perspective of the cationic surfactants for manifold applications through correlation of different physicochemical properties of cationic surfactant-based organized media with the dissolved states of the surfactants in different media. Chapter Two presents a review on recent results regarding the interactions of the cationic surfactants, cetyl trimethylammonium chloride (CTAC) and dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB), with the Glossoscolex paulistus hemoglobin. Chapter Three provides an outlook on zeolitic nanomaterials synthesized from coal ash that are being used for environmental applications with an emphasis on color removal from dye-containing wastewaters. Chapter Four is devoted to the specific features of the acid-base and related equilibria in the reverse water-in-oil microemulsions based on cationic surfactants.

Analysis of Surfactants, Second Edition

Book Description

In the tradition of the popular first edition, Analysis of Surfactants, Second Edition offers a comprehensive and practical account of analysis methods for determining and understanding commercially important surfactants-individually and in compounds. Combining a complete review of the literature with a variety of evaluation procedures and the specifications for commercial products, this useful reference explores the key stages and latest developments for surfactant applications. This edition has been thoroughly expanded and features new sections on capillary electrophoresis, ether carboxylates, and ester quats. It is also more globally accessible with foreign language citations and SI units. Containing over 2400 references, drawings, tables, and equations, Analysis of Surfactants, Second Edition is an recommended reference for physical, surface, colloid, and oil chemists; analytical, research, and quality assurance chemists working in the soap and detergent, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetic industries; regulatory and food scientists; and upper-level undergraduate and graduate students in these disciplines.
