"Bien qu'intimement liés, les concepts de croissance, de population et de protection sociale font montre d'évolutions disparates. La situation actuelle est en vérité contrastée: dans le monde développé, la population stagne ou régresse, la croissance est molle et la protection sociale recule; dans les économies émergentes, la croissance épouse des profils divergents cependant que population et protection sociale se développent; dans les pays pauvres, où la croissance est plutôt robuste, la protection sociale progresse timidement et la population explose. Aussi, au su des leçons de l'expérience, est-il permis de prétendre qu'il n'est pas de civilisation rayonnante sans démographie expansive, de vitalité démographique sans progès économique, de protection pérenne sans expansion affirmée ni natalité soutenue. "Croissance, population, protection sociale: faits et théories face aux enjeux", tel fut précisément le thème débattu par cent-trente universitaires, chercheurs et praticiens issus de vingt-trois nations différentes lors du 59ème Congrès de l'Association internationale des économistes de langue française (AIELF) qui s'est tenu du 18 au 20 mai 2015 à l'université Panthéon-Assas (Paris II). Toutes les contributions qui y ont été présentées et discutées sont insérées dans le présent ouvrage. Tant par leur diversité que par leur acuité, ces travaux ont contribué à enrichir la réflexion académique et à esquisser des pistes propres à aplanir les diffcultés d'ajourd'hui et de demain."
