Guide to JCT Design and Build Contract 2016, the new edition of the author's ever popular Guide to DB11, is a practical guide to the operation and administration of the JCT Design & Build Building Contract suite 2016. All of the contract's provisions, procedures and conditions are organised and explained by subject, clearly distinguishing the different obligations due to various parties and the contractual issues arising during the course of a job - all backed up by the latest legislation and case law. Not only is this an indispensable reference for the hard-pressed practitioner, but, assuming no prior knowledge of JCT contracts or the law, it is also ideal for architecture and other construction students on the threshold of undertaking their professional exams.

This tenth edition of David Chappell’s bestselling guide has been revised to take into account changes made in 2016 to payment provisions, loss and/or expense, insurance and many other smaller but significant changes, and includes a section on performance bonds and guarantees. This remains the most concise guide available to the most commonly used JCT building contracts: Standard Building Contract with quantities, 2016 (SBC16), Intermediate Building Contract 2016 (IC16), Intermediate Building Contract with contractor’s design 2016 (ICD16), Minor Works Building Contract 2016 (MW16), Minor Works Building Contract with contractor’s design 2016 (MWD16) and Design and Build Contract 2016 (DB16). Chappell avoids legal jargon and writes with authority and precision. Architects, quantity surveyors, contractors and students of these professions will find this a practical and affordable reference tool arranged by topic.

"This book introduces the fundamentals of software contracts and illustrates how Design by Contract contributes to the optimal use of design patterns in a quality-oriented software engineering process. The Design by Contract approach to software construction provides a methodological guideline for building systems that are robust, modular, and simple." "Readers will find value in the book's overview of the Object Constraint Language, a precise modeling language that allows Design by Contract to be used with the industry standard Unified Modeling Language (UML). Although written in Eiffel, this book makes an excellent companion for developers who are using languages such as Java and UML. Throughout the book the authors discuss specific implementation issues and provide complete, ready-to-be-compiled examples of the use of each pattern." "They introduce design patterns and Design by Contract in the context of software engineering, and show how these tools are used to guide and document system design."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Design and build (D&B) construction procurement relies on a project’s main contractor shouldering the responsibility for creating the design and executing the construction for a project. While the extent of contractor-produced design can vary, this method of construction procurement affords the contractor a greater level of input and responsibility than traditionally procured contracts (where the employer has greater design responsibility). Over the last decade in the UK, it has become clear that D&B contracts are becoming the most popular method for procuring construction projects; often echoing the ways in which contracts for infrastructure and process plant can be procured. Whilst D&B can provide a greater degree of contractor input for producing feasibility and concept designs, then the detailed design to deliver a project, many clients amend standard forms of D&B contracts to alter the contractors’ design input. This can significantly change D&B, deviating from the procedures set out in the standard forms of D&B contract. This book firstly takes the reader through each stage of a project (based upon the RIBA Plan of Work 2020) to provide guidance on how D&B contracts were intended to operate, then secondly, identifying how D&B contracts and their procedures have changed. Readers will find: Outline commentary and guidance on commonly used standard forms of D&B contract, including: JCT Design and Build 2016; FIDIC Conditions of Contract for Plant Design-Build 2017; and NEC4 How each D&B contract is intended to operate during each stage of the RIBA Plan of Work 2020 How the operation of D&B contracts and their procedures are often amended. An ideal resource for contractors, employers, and consultants, as well as those studying construction at university, Design and Build Contracts offers helpful commentary and guidance for how each stage of a D&B engineering or construction project should progress.
