Physics of the Universe

This book presents a new approach to the subject of cosmology. It fully exploits Einstein?s theory of general relativity. It is found that the most general formal expression of the theory replaces the (10-component) tensor formalism with a (16-component) quaternion formalism. This leads to a unified field theory, where one field incorporates gravitation and electromagnetism. The theory predicts an oscillating universe cosmology with a spiral configuration. Dark matter is explained in terms of a sea of particle?antiparticle pairs, each in a particular (derived) ground state. This leads to an explanation for the separation between matter and antimatter in the universe. There is a brief discussion of black holes and pulsars. The final chapter delves into philosophical considerations such as the different types of ?truth?, positivism versus realism and a discussion of the role of the Mach principle in physics and cosmology.

In light of the barrage of popular books on physics and cosmology, one may question the need for another. Here, two books especially come to mind: Steven Weinberg's The First Three Minutes, written 12 years ago, and the recent best-seller ABriefHistory of Time by Stephen Hawking. The two books are complementary. Weinberg-Nobel prize winner/physicist-wrote from the standpoint of an elementary particle physicist with emphasis on the contents of the universe, whereas Hawking wrote more as a general relativist with emphasis on gravity and the geometry of the universe. Neither one, however, presented the complete story. Weinberg did not 13 venture back beyond the time when temperature was higher than 10 K and 32 perhaps as high as 10 K. He gave no explanation for the origin of particles and the singularity or source of the overwhelming radiation energy in our uni verse of one billion photons for each proton. Hawking presents a uni verse that has no boundaries, was not created, and will not be destroyed. The object of this book is to describe my new theory on the creation of our uni verse in a multi-universe cosmos. The new cosmological model eliminates the troublesome singularity-big bang theory and explains for the first time the origin of matter and the overwhelming electromagnetic radiation contained in the universe. My new theory also predicted the existence ofhigh-energy gamma rays, which were recendy detected in powerful bursts.




God, Humanity, and the Universe

The main objective of this book on cosmology and theology is to reassess the current approach to research in the field of interaction, mediation, and dialogue between modern cosmology and Christian theology (Eastern Orthodox theology in particular). This project was part of wide-ranging cross-disciplinary research undertaken by scientists, philosophers, and theologians across the world within the framework of Science & Orthodoxy around the World, run by the National Hellenic Research Foundation (Athens) from 2019 to 2023. The project and this publication contribute to the large-scale academic activity in the field of science and religion (or science and theology) with a particular accent on the contribution of Eastern Orthodox theology to this dialogue, as well as to the venues of advancement of this theology given the recent breakthroughs in cosmology, physics, and philosophy. The book also underlines the importance of expressing cosmological ideas theologically, symbolically, and scientifically in the wide context of culture and humanity's sociopolitical and environmental predicaments.
