Beautiful Mess

Book Description

"It's about the excitement at the start of a magical love affair." "It's about being in love, everyone knows apart from the person you're in love with." "It's about a fear of the dark which can be conquered by somebody you love being there." "It's about the end of a possibility, the end of hope." "It's about dreaming." "It's about escape and flying." "It's about winning." "It's about an idealistic gay utopia, but looking back in hindsight it wasn't the utopia they all thought it would be." "It's about how cities come and go." "It's about my childhood." "It's about the end of a relationship." "It's about someone I know." "It's about people not believing each other." "It's about not being disappointed." "It's about being disappointed." "It's about how you can almost be there, without getting there." "It's about class, about rough boys getting a bit of posh." "It's about growing old, and that when you've reached a certain age you've survived this far, you're still alive." "It's about waiting for someone to tell you they love you." "It's about saying goodbye." 'Beautiful Mess was written between the years 1987/1997. They are explorations and observations, they part document my ever changing attitudes. I present to you, a twilight world of neon and the unknown, of secret dreams and deals, of contrasting morals and different codes where the young are the heroes and the losers are saints, where the ugly is beautiful and the beautiful more beautiful, in the gutter where gold is found, we are all just a beautiful mess.' Mark Binmore. London 1998.

Faces of the Waterfall

Book Description

Life. It wears many different faces throughout time. Sometimes the faces are happy, sometimes sad, sometimes good, sometimes bad, sometimes indifferent. The faces change constantly. The faces are very important. Sometimes they show up to help us grow. Sometimes they are there to teach us a lesson. Sometimes they are there to encourage us. Sometimes they punish us for bad deeds we do and reward us for the good we do. Sometimes, the faces are gorgeous, sometimes, not so much.. The faces make life what it is. Love comes in many forms. It can be a newborn baby, a fresh springtime rain, a cute little puppy dog, or many different forms. It could be the birds chirping at a park or a raging waterfall. There are many different variations of love as well, for example you could say "I love my jeans and I love my wife. Love is constant. It is everywhere. It is all around you, you just may not recognize what it is. When life and love come together, you get faces of the waterfall. Then theres the Light. The omnipotent, all-seeing, all-knowing Light. The Light holds everything together and brings order to a somewhat chaotic world. Some call it a "higher power, some call it The man upstairs, while others, like myself, simply call it God. When life and love get out of whack, the Light brings them together so everything can go on. The Light brightens an otherwise dark world. The poems contained in this book will show the many different faces of life. The lighter side of life and the dark. They will show different forms of love as it comes in many different shapes and sizes. And they will introduce you to the Light of the World as He weaves the threads and brings it all together. I hope you enjoy each and every poem in the book. Thanks for your support.

The Surviving Twin

Book Description

This memoir chronicles the unique ordeals of identical twin sisters Diana and Julia Lockwood. Even among twins, Diana and Julia were especially close and deeply entwined--they were more than just sisters or best friends, they were like one soul in two bodies. While their total attunement sometimes saved them in funny and unexpected ways, it also eventually destroyed them. A survivor of sexual assault and anorexia and living with Asperger's, the author tells her own life story while weaving Julia's letters and journal entries into the text. While Diana survived the struggles that led her to three suicide attempts, her twin unfortunately took her own life only a year after their father did the same. This book explores the life and relationship of twins separated by tragedy and follows a woman's struggle to make it on her own.

Blood Dark

Book Description

Set during World War I, this monumental philosophical novel about human despair inspired Albert Camus' own writing and prefigured the greater existential movement. Blood Dark tells the story of a brilliant philosopher trapped in a provincial town and of his spiraling descent into self-destruction. Cripure, as his students call him—the name a mocking contraction of Critique of Pure Reason—despises his colleagues, despairs of his charges, and is at odds with his family. The year is 1917, and the slaughter of the First World War goes on and on, with French soldiers not only dying in droves but also beginning to rise up in protest. Still haunted by the memory of the wife who left him long ago, Cripure turns his fury and scathing wit on everyone around him. Before he knows it, a trivial dispute with a complacently patriotic colleague has embroiled him in a duel.
