This book gathers the contributions presented at the 4th International KES Conference on Smart Education and Smart e-Learning (KES-SEEL-17), which took place in Vilamoura, Algarve, Portugal, June 21–23, 2017. Smart education and smart e-Learning are emerging and rapidly growing areas. They represent the innovative integration of smart systems, technologies and objects, smart environments, smart pedagogy, smart learning and academic analytics, various branches of computer science and computer engineering, and state-of-the-art smart educational software and/or hardware systems. Não acordámos ainda para a nova realidade das pessoas mais velhas — mais idosas, com uma esperança de vida bem mais longa do que há umas décadas atrás e com as gerações sucessivas a mostrarem ganhos ao nível físico e mental. Pelo contrário, continuamos a julgá-las com base em crenças e preconceitos, ultrapassados. O objetivo deste livro é o de pôr em causa, de uma forma simples e prática, algumas das crenças que estão na base da discriminação e da exclusão das pessoas mais velhas. Acreditamos que viver bem é simples e, muitas vezes, depende da desconstrução de algumas ideias feitas que nos aprisionam e limitam a nossa capacidade de sermos felizes e livres. Promoting conscious and active learning and aging: how to face current and future challenges?

The European Union has committed itself to the goal of extending the healthy lifespan of its citizens by two years under the 2020 strategy. This book brings together a diverse range of overviews, reflections and empirical research in the area which arise from the contribution of professionals and researchers from different fields of knowledge. Together they undertake to suggest possible pathways and to inspire action in all those who see themselves as participants in the processes and endeavour of building a society which espouses active, dignified, healthy and mindful aging. International Perspectives on Older Adult Education

This important book builds on recent publications in lifelong learning which focus on learning and education in later life. This work breaks new ground in international understandings of what constitutes later life learning across diverse cultures in manifold countries or regions across the world. Landscapes of Investigation


Book Description

Creating landscapes of investigation is a primary concern of critical mathematics education. It enables us to organise educational processes so that students and teachers are able to get involved in explorations guided by dialogical interactions. It attempts to address explicit or implicit forms of social injustice by means of mathematics, and also to promote a critical conception of mathematics, challenging the assumption that the subject represents objectivity and neutrality. Landscapes of Investigation provides many illustrations of how this can be done in primary, secondary, and university education. It also illustrates how exploring landscapes of investigation can contribute to mathematics teacher education programmes. This edited volume is the result of a collaboration established through the Colloquium in Research in Critical Mathematics Education, which took place in 2016, 2018, and 2019 in Brazil. Its twenty-eight contributors are young researchers from Brazil, Chile, Colombia, India, Mexico and the USA, who are dedicated to the further development of critical mathematics education. Organised in eighteen chapters, the volume presents examples of engaging students from a diversity of social and economic backgrounds, age ranges, and abilities across different countries. The chapters present original findings on the social aspects of all levels of mathematics education.
