Especially for You

Book Description

I’m a Christian and an American, two precious, unmatchable, irreplaceable gifts. I am extremely grateful for both and never want to lose them. This is my explanation of these gifts, especially for you, what they mean for you and everyone as well as myself, the whole purpose of our lives. I want to share them with you, even if you don’t call yourself Christian or American. This provides epiphanies. Hopefully, you will see more clearly the value, the worth, the truth of these gifts. The reward for you, for me, for us is happiness beginning with “ten thousand years bright shining as the sun with no less days to sing God’s praise than when we’d first begun.” This provides a special recipe, not for food, but the necessary elements for obtaining that reward. Christ provided the way for us, he proclaimed it clearly, he showed us how to get there, through certain attitudes, eight in all, which we must blend into one. This also provides an example of the exact opposite, the antithesis, which can rob us of these gifts if we do not live and act according to Christ’s teachings to be blessed. We could not get a photo for the back cover. Please add your own recall of the events of January 6, 2021, the truth which we all saw. A mob climbing the walls, battering the windows and doors to get in, the gallows to hang Vice President Pence, the hollering to find Nancy Pelosi, and the violence and desecration of our Capitol. All of this was in an attempt to prevent Congress from doing its duty as representatives of our democracy to designate a new President. January 6, 2021, was the most significant attempted Presidential crime in American history.

The Five Ways We Grieve

Book Description

In this new approach to understanding the impact of grief, Susan A. Berger goes beyond the commonly held theories of stages of grief with a new typology for self-awareness and personal growth. She offers practical advice for healing from a major loss in this presentation of five basic ways, or types, of grieving. These five types describe how different people respond to a major loss. The types are: • Nomads, who have not yet resolved their grief and don’t often understand how their loss has affected their lives • Memorialists, who are committed to preserving the memory of their loved ones by creating concrete memorials and rituals to honor them • Normalizers, who are committed to re-creating a sense of family and community • Activists, who focus on helping other people who are dealing with the same disease or issues that caused their loved one’s death • Seekers, who adopt religious, philosophical, or spiritual beliefs to create meaning in their lives Drawing on research results and anecdotes from working with the bereaved over the past ten years, Berger examines how a person’s worldview is affected after a major loss. According to her findings, people experience significant changes in their sense of mortality, their values and priorities, their perception of and orientation toward time, and the manner in which they "fit" in society. The five types of grieving, she finds, reflect the choices people make in their efforts to adapt to dramatic life changes. By identifying with one of the types, readers who have suffered a recent loss—or whose lives have been shaped by an early loss—find ways of understanding the impact of the loss and of living more fully.

Recipes from Historic Texas

Book Description

Tired of the boring chain restaurant scene? Recipes from Historic Texas will please your palate and nourish your mind. Enjoy a unique bit of Texas history by visiting a wide variety of restaurants located in unusual historic settings-a gritsmill, a Dr. Pepper bottling plant, a church, and a funeral home, to name a few. Two recipes from each establishment are offered to form a well balanced selection of Texas cuisine. A brief history of each of the 70 restaurants is included, followed by basic information such as hours of operation, location, and other important details. The recipes themselves are an eclectic mix of the simple and the exotic, from the Cowboy Omelet at Beaumont's The Pig Stand to the Jicama Salad at Dallas's famous Mansion on Turtle Creek.
