Developing a Company Officer Certification Program for the Las Cruces Fire Department


Book Description

The literature review, interviews with other departments, and input from two internal department committees provided guidance and suggestions for competencies, criteria and evaluation tools. The results of the research yielded a policy that used NFPA 1021 as the foundation for identifying the critical performance objectives and outlined what specific criteria were needed to meet the certification process. Four evaluation tools were identified and assigned to each of the 24 specific criteria. The policy was developed and implemented, and after further consideration and evaluation, additional training for the supervisors was needed and an officer's academy was recommended.
