This second volume in the series has abstracts of all of the grants from 1742 to 1775, a period that saw the formation and settlement of Frederick, Fairfax, Culpeper, Loudoun, Fauquier, and Dunmore (changed in 1778 to Shenandoah) counties in Virginia, and Hampshire and Berkeley counties now in West Virginia. Altogether, in more than 4,000 abstracts, about 7,500 early Virginia residents are cited, all of them listed in the index.

John Ball was born in Stafford County, Virginia. He married Winifred Williams. She was probably his second wife. He had eight known children. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, Kansas and Texas.

William Garrett was born in in 1794 in South Carolina. He married Jennett who may have been a Quaker from Pennsylvania. They had at least seven children. Information on many of his ancestral lines that go back into England and on his descendants is included in this volume. His descendants now live in Texas, Indiana, Alabama, and elsewhere.
