Follicle-Stimulating Hormone: Fertility and Beyond

Book Description

Propagating life to the next generation is a hormone-dependent process relying on the individual wish to generate own progeny and resulting in maintenance of species. Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) is a key reproductive hormone in vertebrates used as a drug in the treatment of human infertility and hypogonadism. The FSH-FSH receptor system began to be characterized in its essential functioning mechanism only in the last couple of decades, i.e. long after the clinical use of the hormone. Some novel, intriguing aspects of FSH function are now emerging, This eBook contains the most recent scientific advances about FSH and its receptor, contributed by the world leaders of the field.

Follicle Stimulating Hormone

Book Description

The chapters in this book represent presentations at the first meeting ever held on the regulation and actions of follicle stimulating hormone. The meeting took place on the campus of Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, from October 25 to 28, 1990. The idea for this meeting was conceived by Neena B. Schwartz, and the valuable advice of the organizing committee contributed greatly to its scientific success. We gratefully acknowledge the funding and coordination of this meeting by Serono Symposia, USA. We also wish to acknowledge the financial contributions made by Northwestern University. We especially thank the invited speakers, poster presenters, and discussion participants who pro vided the science, interest, and enthusiasm that made this meeting on FSH a success. Diagnostic Function Tests in Chemical Pathology

Book Description

This book is written for hospital doctors, nurses, biochemists, medi cal laboratory scientific officers and phlebotomists involved with the biochemical investigation of patients. It is hoped, also, that general practitioners and medical students will find it of help. Whilst the vast majority of biochemical tests assess the level of constituents in blood and urine at a given point in time, an impor tant additional parameter is the assessment of physiological reserve function by means of loading tests, prOlonged fasting, exercise and clearance studies. The protocol and interpretation of response of each of these stress tests form the main basis of the text. An attempt has been made to be reasonably comprehensive in the range of tests described; hence, not only have some rather older ones been re tained, but also some very recently introduced ones included. It is appreciated that practice varies widely from laboratory to labora tory with respect to protocol, sample collection, methodology and quotation of reference ranges, and no doubt also from clinician to clinician, particularly regarding interpretation of results. In paedi atric work, micromethods will demand much smaller volumes of blood than those stated here, which relate generally to adult medi cine. The account, therefore, must be seen as a guide to practice rather than as a recipe; it is in no wayan attempt to standardise procedures, which depend on the local requirements.

Fsh

Book Description

In this day and age we live in people often wonder if they still need religion, and if so what religion is right? Is there a hundred percent answer to this question? Probably not, but we all can search, and that being what most people are doing, searching between the covers of this book might not be such a bad idea. You will find arguments which might suit you, or not, but you will definately not be bored. What did Jesus came here to do, and was he allowed to do it? Did Jesus die for our ""sins,"" or was he killed because of reasons we do not really know? What could those reasons be? They could be between the covers of this book!
