Our McConnell Family of Ohio and West Virginia


Book Description

The McConnell family appears to have originated in Scotland. Members of the family immigrated to northern Ireland in the early 1600s. By the early 1800s members of the family had immigrated to America. James McConnell (b. 1757) was born in Dromore, Ireland and married Margaret Topping. They were the parents of seven children. Their children immigrated to America where they settled in Ohio, West Virginia and other parts of the United States where they married into a number of families including Bell, Christy, Freshwater, Manypenny and Croye.

Chiefly a record of some of the ancestors and descendants of Roy Arthur Hunt and Rachel McMasters Miller Hunt. Roy was born 3 Aug 1881 in Nashua, New Hampshire, to Alfred Epher Hunt and Maria Tyler McQuesten. He married Rachel McMasters Miller 11 Jun 1913. She was born 30 Jun 1882 in Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania, to Mortimer Craig Miller and Rachel Hughey McMasters. She died 22 Feb 1963 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He died 21 Oct 1966 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They were the parents of four children. Descendants live mostly in Pennsylvania.

Robert Boyd (ca. 1705-1751) was of Scottish descent. He immigrated from Ulster Province, Ireland and settled in Cumberland (later Franklin County), Pennsylvania about 1737. Descendants and relatives eventually scattered throughout the United States.
