History of Georgia (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from History of Georgia I have kept constantly in View the necessity of writing a usable book. The manuscript was read and criticised by a number of public school and normal school teachers of the state, and I am led to hope from their opinions that a text constructed along the above lines will prove acceptable to teachers and pupils. Where the book is used for very young people, I suggest the omission of Chapters V, XI, XIV, XIX, XXV. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Historical Collections of Georgia (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from Historical Collections of Georgia The flattering reception given by my fellow-citizens to "The Statistics of Georgia," naturally encouraged me to venture still farther in that field, which must ever be a favourite with the patriotic Georgian. Ten years of incessant labour, expense, and travel throughout the State, have been cheerfully bestowed, and the "Historical Collections of Georgia" are the result. No source of knowledge has been neglected or despised. The Libraries of Charleston, Savannah, Milledgeville, and New-York, have been diligently searched. The Colonial Documents kindly furnished me by the Legislature of Georgia, to aid in the compilation of this work, have been freely used. A large amount of information has been gleaned, moreover, from aged persons - "the oldest inhabitants" of many of our towns and villages - whose memories are proverbially tenacious in regard to events, which made their vivid impressions in early youth. A Gazetteer of the State of Georgia (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from A Gazetteer of the State of Georgia A second edition of the Gazetteer of Georgia, considerably enlarged, is now presented to the public. Many persons refused to purchase the first edition, because it was too small. They did not feel disposed to give alarge quid for a small quo; but, if all that is necessary for the design of a work can be compressed into a few pages, none but the really parsimonious will complain, - certainly not the indolent.
