Modern Cryosurgery For Cancer

Book Description

Cryosurgery is a surgical technique that employs freezing to destroy undesirable tissue. From as early as 3500 BC, there is evidence for the use of cold in medicine for the treatment of infected wounds of the chest, fracture of the skull and various injuries. However, the history of “modern” cryosurgery is relatively short and is closely intertwined with the development in low temperature physics, engineering, and instrumentation during the last century. From the early 21st century, advanced helium-based cryosurgery has been applied worldwide. More than ten thousand patients with malignant and benign tumors have received cryosurgery. It is specially noted that in most cases cryosurgery, as a mini-invasive ablation technique, was performed with percutaneous approach under guidance of CT or ultrasound. Cryosurgery is now one of the more popular techniques in China, with nearly 6000 cases of tumors receiving cryosurgery in the author's institution alone. This book summarizes the experimental and clinical experience and practice of cryosurgery, and describes the basics of cryosurgery and its use in the treatment of various tumors.

Basics of Cryosurgery

Book Description

Basics of Cryosurgery is the first publication specialising in the fundamentals of modern cryosurgery. This book presents what is currently known in modern cryosurgery and is the first on the subject to appear at the start of the third millennium. It aims to contribute to the further development of this branch of medicine, which is set to become indispensable in treating patients. Basics of Cryosurgery is a unique contribution - no previous work has compiled in one source all available scientific data on the theoretical, experimental, and clinical investigations that have been undertaken in the field of cryosurgery.

Cryosurgery

Book Description

Cutaneous Cryosurgery

Book Description

Cryosurgery - local freezing with liquid nitrogen for the controlled destruction of unwanted living tissue - is a simple, useful and cost-effective modality of treatment for both benign and malignant skin lesions. Unfortunately, if used without the correct training or adequate knowledge of the clinical principles involved, it can produce poor results and serious problems. The third edition of this extensively illustrated handbook sets out all the necessary basic information for the efficient and effective running of a cryosurgery clinic.

Cryosurgery

Book Description

This book aims to fill the gap created by the lack of formal training in cryosurgery, which leads not only to an underutilization of the technique but also to inappropriate uses with unpleasant consequences for patients. The book covers all practical aspects of cryosurgery and also offers a theoretical foundation for practice. Basic principles, equipment, and techniques are described, and procedures are explained step by step for a range of applications, including common benign lesions, vascular lesions, premalignant conditions, and malignancies. An important feature is the coverage of the latest advances in combination treatments such as topical drugs and cryosurgery, ultrasound and cryosurgery, photography and cryosurgery, cryobiopsy, and immuno cryosurgery. Use of cryosurgery as palliative treatment is also discussed, and the closing chapters consider postoperative care, complications, and future directions.

Handbook of Urologic Cryoablation

Book Description

As prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer found in men, the clinical and surgical commitments to treating it are enormous, as well as to be expected given the aging male population. Urologic cryotherapy is one such method for those with organ-confined or minimally-spread prostate cancer. The benefits it offers both patient and surgeon ar
