In grouping these counties together in one vol ume respect has been had to that ancient tie of lineage and race which has given and will pre serve in both sections an identity of interest, and also to the fact that for more than a century and a half these counties were one in territory and municipal government. It is therefore fitting that they should be classed together in their history.
