This book provides readers with two major practical insights. Firstly, on the basis of statistical inquiry it identifies the significance of socio-cultural elements that encourage user-instigated transformation. Secondly, it employs layout pattern analysis to distinguish transformation patterns, hence revealing an unbroken cultural link between residents and their roots. The book also sheds new light on the transformation of public housing in the context of culture-sensitive communities in Northern Nigeria. The research work is directed towards developing culture-responsive public housing design frameworks that are rooted in the current users’ experiences. As a result, a broad portrait of prime design emerges from said experiences. In order to accomplish this goal, the study takes into account both phenomenological and interpretive dimensions. In the process, the cultural factors behind residents’ transformations are uncovered.

Zippy the TV Chimp tells the little-known story about a very well-known personality. Zippy got his name from the way he "zipped" about while wearing his skates. He was given his "little boy" style and status because of his intelligence, understanding and ability to do so many things the same way (or nearly so) humans do them. He made his way to live television and performed professionally with no second takes. Zippy was a dependable regular on the variety shows of Jackie Gleason, Ed Sullivan, Gary Moore and "Howdy Doody", and appeared with hundreds of other TV personalities. Zip became a recognizable character with "Star" status. He was featured in magazines and newspapers, but he was often seen dining in some of the best restaurants, using impeccable manners. He was known by millions. Zippy was loved by children and adults, thousands of whom grew up loving their "Zippy" doll and feeling the nostalgia of a time of innocence. This book allows the reader to become a kid again and read the little-known (and some, until now, unknown) tales of Zippy's exploits. Complete with pictures to reinforce the memories, Zippy the TV Chimp is a biography of one of the most popular animal stars ever. The story is told by one who held Zippy's hand and trained him to be the star he was... Carole, Zippy's Mom.

This book is proposed as both a general reading of the discipline for students in architecture and urban planning, and offers a variety of materials for professionals of local and international organizations. It brings together studies with new perspectives and relevant subjects from different geographical areas. The book gathers the contributions of international researchers and experts. It is divided into three parts and eight chapters: Part I, "Introduction to Housing Affairs," includes a chapter that discusses a general reading of housing as meaning and action in social, economic, and environmental city life. Part II, "Case Studies Upon Housing Policies," includes four chapters. It consists of many examples from different geographical areas and domains. Part III, "Housing Quality and Affordability," includes three chapters; housing quality, sustainability, and development are the main subjects for this part.

There is a dearth of collections of scholarly works dedicated wholly to African issues, that comes out of the work done by African scholars and practitioners with both African collaborators and from elsewhere. This volume brings together scholarly works and thoughts that cut across and intertwine the tripods-environment-consciousness, socially just development and African development into options that could deliver on the promise of the SDGs. The book project is an initiative of the Centre for Housing and Sustainable Development at the University of Lagos, which realized the gap in ground research linking the housing sector with the SDGs in African cities. This book therefore presents chapters that explore the interconnections, interactions and linkages between the SDGs and Housing through research, practice, experience, case-studies, desk-based research and other knowledge media.
