I'm Movin' On

Things I Learned Along the Way

Book Description

Each of us has only one life to live. Some lives are long and some are cut too short. They can be full of happy times, but there can also be sad moments. The events that shape our lives are all pieces of our life's puzzle. The choices we make, the lessons we learn from our life's experiences, and the people who share them with us, all help to influence who we are and who we will become. I have been around for over 80 years, and during my long life, I have had many experiences and learned many lessons along the way. In sharing some of these with you, it is not my intention to teach or give advice. Nor do I want to tell anyone how they should live, what they should believe, or what they ought to do. Instead, I want to share some of the things I learned that proved to be useful to me on my life's journey. I hope some of these lessons might also be helpful as you make your way on your own journey through life.

Marine Rifleman

Book Description

Intrigued by the mystique and challenge of the Marine Corps, eighteen-year-old Wesley Fox enlisted in the summer of 1950, shortly after the outbreak of the Korean War. He saw action with the First Marine Division in Korea and was wounded in 1951. After Korea, Fox advanced steadily in the enlisted ranks, reaching the rank of first sergeant, and, early in the Vietnam War, he received an appointment as second lieutenant. While serving as a rifle company commander with the Third Marine Division in 1969, he was twice wounded in a vicious battle during Operation Dewey Canyon. Early in this battle, every member of the company s command staff was either wounded or killed. In an all-or-nothing effort led by First Lieutenant Fox, his company repulsed the attack of a much larger enemy force and then counterattacked with devastating results. For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty, Fox received the Medal of Honor, which President Richard Nixon presented to him at the White House. Despite the personal sacrifice and frequent danger, Fox resolutely embraced the ethos of the Marine Corps, risking his life on numerous occasions and emerging as a leader in one of the most respected and feared fighting organizations in the world. Readers interested in U.S. military history from the second half of the twentieth century, in the Marine Corps, and in inspiring tales of personal achievement will find plenty of each in Fox s extraordinary memoir."

Elvis Presley's From Elvis in Memphis

Book Description

A Classic Rock book of 2020 "I had to leave town for a little while--" with these words, Elvis Presley truly came home to rock and roll. A little over a month earlier he had staged rock's first and greatest comeback in a television program, forever known as "The '68 Comeback Special." With this show, he resurrected himself--at the age of 33, no less--from the ashes of a career mired in bad movies and soundtracks. So where to go from here? Like a killer returning to the scene of the crime, Elvis came back home to Memphis, where it had all begun. Eschewing the fancier studios of Nashville and Hollywood, he set up shop at the ramshackle American Sound Studio, run by a maverick named Chips Moman with an in-house backing band now known as "The Memphis Boys," and made the music of his life. The resulting work, From Elvis in Memphis, would be the finest studio album of his career, an explosion of mature confidence and fiery inspiration. It was the sound of Elvis establishing himself as a true rock and roll artist--and proving his status as a legend.
