Forever & Beyond

Book Description

My name is Brandon Crasta. I'm an ordinary man. My life hasn't been the breathtaking adventure I'd have imagined it to be when I was young, but neither has it been the publicly uninteresting spectacle as people brand the common man's life to be. It's been a mixture of both, and no matter how you choose to view it, this does not erase the footprints of my path, or the choices I have made. I'm proud of the things I've done, and though some of them may have been outrightly stupid, I've followed my heart, and fulfilled most of my dreams, and I think to me, that is enough.

Soliloquies

Book Description

A fresh, new translation of Augustine's fourth work as a Christian convert The first four works written by St. Augustine of Hippo after his conversion to Christianity are dialogues that have influenced prominent thinkers from Boethius to Bernard Lonergan. Usually called the Cassiciacum dialogues, these four works are of a high literary and intellectual quality, combining Ciceronian and neo-Platonic philosophy, Roman comedy and Vergilian poetry, and early Christian theology. They are also, arguably, Augustine's most charming works, exhibiting his whimsical levity and ironic wryness. Soliloquies is the fourth work in this tetralogy. Augustine coined the term "soliloquy" to describe this new form of dialogue. Soliloquies, a conversation between Augustine and his reason, fuses the dialogue genre and Roman theater, opening with a search for intellectual and moral self-knowledge before converging on the nature of truth and the question of the soul's immortality. Foley's volume also includes On the Immortality of the Soul, which consists of notes for the unfinished portion of the work.

Lanterns of the Soul

Book Description

Lanterns of the Soul offers a collection of poetry inspired by all the things we love and question-relationships, faith, nature ... life, itself. It is a heartfelt compilation of author Lynda Harris's deepest thoughts and emotions over a lifetime; hers are words we can all relate to, as well as thoughts that make us pause to think and reflect on our own journeys through life. Each poem offers a unique perspective on an idea-words that bring moments to life, giving us reasons to laugh out loud or cry tears of happiness or sorrow. Shedding light on both the extraordinary and mundane experiences of life, these verses trace a passage through one life and reach out to others following the same path. A Letter Just the Same I'm writing to you, Uncle Harold, Though you're one I never knew, To tell you that your love of poems Was passed to me from you. I'm well aware you know me not, For I was very young That day the angels called your name And beckoned you to come. Your sister Mary's oldest girl- They often call me Lynn- For it is I who writes these words- All grown, the child you knew back then.

The Transbeingness of Man

Book Description

This book is my contribution of intuitive epistemology. This book discusses many new understandings of ultimate reality but, primarily, new understandings of the nature of God, the nature of man, and the nature and origin of our present universe. God is described as not personal, not all-powerful, not all-knowing, and not all-present. Individualized man is described as the unknowing expression of God. The universe is described as composed, in part, of the formless realm, the physical realm, the purgatorial realm, the spiritual realm, and the infinite void. The transbeingness of man is described as formless man, physical man, purgatorial man, and spiritual man. Individualized man, a nonspecific term for individualizations of infinite man, is described as alternately existing in two realities. The first reality is core reality. In core reality, individualized man is in total self-conscious unity and harmony with God. Thus, in core reality, individualized man exists in a mental self-realizing state of total harmony and bliss. The second reality is objective reality. In objective reality, individualized man experiences his infinite existence. This experiencing of existence is described as the purpose for individualized mans existence. Also, a fundamental understanding of this book is understanding the difference between real experiences and nonreal experiences. All functions within ultimate reality comprise real experiences. All experiences self-consciously created by individualized man are nonreal experiences. It is through the creative experiencing of objective existence that individualized man understands himself, God, and the purpose for his infinite existence. Finally, this book describes heaven and hell. Individualized man self-punishes himself for all his wrongdoings; God punishes no one. Hell is reserved for the individualizations of man that self-consciously reject God, but real physical hell is not a place of punishment.

Arboreal Thought

Book Description

My idea of arboreal thought is an analogy based on the arboreal hypothesis that suggests a ground-running biped of some kind that adapted itself to living in trees. The hypothesis suggests that the biped began climbing trees, then leaping branches, then parachuting branches, and finally developing feathered, flapping wings to fly.
