The second World War began to affect the mineral industry of Illinois during 1940 by the stimulation of demand from industries directly connected with filling orders for military equipment for this country and for foreign countries. This stimulation continued and increased throughout 1941 from the rapidly increasing military preparations of the United States and the great program of aiding its allies, which culminated in the United States entering the war in December, 1941.
