Illustrated Dictionary of Mycology

Book Description

Theoretically translated from the 1991 Dicctionario Illustrado de Micologia, a reference for students of fungus, but in fact also updated and enlarged to include nearly twice as many terms and 80% more illustrations. Many of the some 4,000 entries include black-and- white drawings or photographs illustrating the part or feature being defined. Ulloa (botany, Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico) and Hanlin (plant pathology, U. of Georgia) include the derivation of the words, most of which are from Latin. Unfortunately they do not indicate pronunciation. The cross-referencing is extensive, which mitigates the lack of an index. They also include a short bibliography and an extensive outline of the classification of the taxa they cover down to the genus level. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

The Identification of Fungi

Book Description

This manual covers all groups of fungi and fungus-like organisms and includes over 500 diagrams and line drawings. Descriptions of major groups (phylogenetic and artificial), simplified keys to family, and an illustrated glossary enable placement of common fungi into the appropriate taxonomic category. Text and glossary are coordinated to introduce fundamentals of mycological terminology. Over 30 pages of references are provided for literature on identification of cultures and specimens, and references are also given for contemporary phylogenetic research on each major taxonomic group. Publisher.

A Glossary of Mycology

Book Description

Nearly 7000 terms--technical terms and their derivations; common or popular, vernacular, and obsolete terms; terms used in the field of medical mycology and antibiotics; names of the originators of terms; folklore terms; and color terms--were covered by the original edition. Also included were terms which, though not strictly mycological, occur frequently in literature of particular interest to mycologists.

Fundamental Medical Mycology

Book Description

Medical mycology deals with those infections in humans, and animals resulting from pathogenic fungi. As a separate discipline, the concepts, methods, diagnosis, and treatment of fungal diseases of humans are specific. Incorporating the very latest information concerning this area of vital interest to research and clinical microbiologists,Fundamental Medical Mycology balances clinical and laboratory knowledge to provide clinical laboratory scientists, medical students, interns, residents, and fellows with in-depth coverage of each fungal disease and its etiologic agents from both the laboratory and clinical perspective. Richly illustrated throughout, the book includes numerous case presentations.

Fungal Biodiversity

Book Description

This book focuses on techniques for isolation, cultivation, molecular and morphological study of fungi and yeasts. It has been developed as a general text, which is based on the annual mycology course given at the CBS-KNAW Fungal Biodiversity Centre (Centraalbureau voor Schimmelcultures). It provides an introductory text to systematic mycology.

Textbook of Medical Mycology

Book Description

Medical mycology refers to the study of fungi that produce disease in humans and other animals, and of the diseases they produce, their ecology, and their epidemiology. This new edition has been fully revised to provide microbiologists with the latest information on fungal infections, covering the entire spectrum of different types of infection, and therapeutic modalities. Beginning with a general overview explaining morphology, taxonomy, and diagnosis, the following sections cover the different categories of fungal infection including superficial cutaneous mycoses, subcutaneous mycoses, systemic mycoses and opportunistic mycoses. A complete section is dedicated to pseudofungal infections. The highly illustrated text concludes with a detailed appendices section and each chapter features key references for further reading. Key points Fully revised, fourth edition providing latest information on the diagnosis and management of fungal infections Covers the entire spectrum of mycoses Highly illustrated with clinical photographs and figures Previous edition (9788188039780) published in 2009

The Fungi

Book Description

This new edition of The Fungi provides a comprehensive introduction to the importance of fungi in the natural world and in practical applications, from a microbiological perspective.

Fundamentals of Diagnostic Mycology

Book Description

This text implements theory with practical methods for the laboratory identification of medically important fungi. Individual chapters are devoted to specific fungi and include an in-depth discussion in terms of unique risk factors, human infection, specimen sources, special precautions and much more. Useful as a reference for laboratory personnel who need to quickly and accurately identify fungi in clinical specimens! Multiple illustrations of each fungus, including detailed line drawings and photomicrographs, depict typical and atypical examples with explanations of identifying features.
