"The Pilgrim Migration in the 1620s to Plymouth Colony was the opening episode of the Great Migration to New England of the 1620s and 1630s. Separatists - Puritans opposed to the English church - first moved to Holland from England and then to Plymouth Colony, in what is now Massachusetts. In this one volume, Robert Charles Anderson tells the story of the Pilgrim Migration by relating the story of each family or individual known to have resided in Plymouth Colony between 1620 (when the Mayflower arrived) and 1633. Each of the more than two hundred sketches provides information on the early histories of these immigrants as well as their New World experiences. This material is followed by complete genealogical accounts, including all marriages and children of the immigrants"--Back cover

Lambert provided valuable descriptions of the general history of the area and various towns, detailed specific events, and discussed numerous facets of early American life: religious, political and social. There is a poem, entitled "Old Milford," taken from the Connecticut Gazette, Vol. I, No. 4, 1835, as well as a "History of Milford, Connecticut," written by Lambert in June, 1836 for Historical Collections of Connecticut by John W. Barber. Neither the poem nor the sketch of Milford appears in the printed version.

"This important classic work, first published in 1930, lists the names of immigrants to New England during the Great Migration, 1620-1640: more than 3,500 names of passengers on 96 ships. Going year by year, for each person, Banks lists full name, the name of the ship, believed place of origin, and place of residence in America. In addition to this key information is an essay called "A study of emigration to New England in colonial times," providing readers with insight into the lives of their immigrant ancestors" -- Publisher's description.
