Rights and Social Justice in Research

Book Description

Can our research create conditions for people to flourish? What kinds of questions do we ask about the social world and how knowledge is produced? Does our approach to research itself matter? This edited collection explores and illustrates the nature of research for social justice. Drawing on a diverse range of social research projects, it examines research with and for young people, marginalised communities and those who work to further social justice and human rights goals. Providing key examples of the tools, processes and outcomes of research relevant to social justice, including where and how these frameworks can be used in the design and execution of research, this is a much-needed intervention to social research methodology.

Introduction to Public Health for Chiropractors

Book Description

Public health is of concern to practicing chiropractors, as well as chiropractic students. The vast majority of chiropractors utilize public health concepts every day as an integral part of patient care. For instance, they give advice on risk factors that should be avoided and protective factors to be added by their patients to enhance healing and prevent illness. Pubic health is also part of the curriculum at all chiropractic colleges and is tested by the National Board. No public health textbooks are available that are specifically designed for the chiropractor. Consequently, college instructors are forced to make-do with class notes and generic texts that do not address the specific issues relevant to chiropractic. This book will not only be of interest to chiropractic students, but also practicing chiropractors because it will provide information they can utilize to provide better care by positively intervening with their patients and their communities regarding public health matters.

Inform and Empower

Book Description

Abstract: Despite India's rapid growth in the past decade, large disparities in health outcomes and health service utilization between the poor and the better off still exist. Furthermore, large disparities also exist between rural and urban areas. In this study I argue that skewed political incentives due to clientelism and a lack of accountability are the cause of these disparities. I contend that the central problem in the inequities is that people lack information about preventive health measures, about appropriate health services, and about how to demand better health services. Without proper information, individuals cannot demand the health services that they are entitled to. Thus, the strategy is to inform and empower the individuals.
