The parents, Noah and Sarah, emigrated from Odessa in 1905 to escape the pogroms and homesteaded and ran a general store in Streeter. Their youngest son, Larry, a student of journalism at the University in Grand Forks, enlisted after graduation to fight for the country that gave his parents freedom.
