The hearing examines the health hazards posed by lead and cadmium release from housewares into food, the adequacy of the Food and Drug Administration's program to protect the public against dangerous lead and cadmium levels, and the effectiveness of the FDA's enforcement and compliance efforts. The quality assurance programs of the domestic ceramicware industry, importers, and retailers to insure that domestic and imported housewares do not pose a health threat to American consumers are reviewed.
