Ernestine has never been camping before, but she’s sure it will be lots of fun . . . won’t it? An endearing story about a girl’s first experience with the great outdoors. My aunt Jackie invited me to go camping with her and my cousin Samantha this weekend. I’ve never been camping before, but I know I will love it. Ernestine is beyond excited to go camping. She follows the packing list carefully (new sleeping bag! new flashlight! special trail mix made with Dad!) so she knows she is ready when the weekend arrives. But she quickly realizes that nothing could have prepared her for how hard it is to set up a tent, never mind fall asleep in it, or that swimming in a lake means that there will be fish — eep! Will Ernestine be able to enjoy the wilderness, or will it prove to be a bit too far out of her comfort zone? In an energetic illustrated story about a first sleepover under the stars, acclaimed author-illustrator Jennifer K. Mann reminds us that opening your mind to new experiences, no matter how challenging, can lead to great memories (and a newfound taste for s’mores).

Are you wary about spending a ton of money on another massively expensive family holiday? Are you longing for something different which is not only cheaper but also just as much fun as any holiday vacation could ever be? Would you like to get away from city-life and just see what is really out there in the world of nature and the wilderness? Well, It's no surprise that camping is one of the most popular recreational activities in the world! Every year, millions of people book their camping spots to enjoy an opportunity to experience nature and wildlife. People generally love the outdoors since it's a chance to get away from civilization and also a chance to bond as a family or just have a great time overall. We live on a shrinking planet! World populations continue to grow and put ever-increasing demands on natural resources. Every day cities are expanding their borders and infringing on surrounding farm lands and forests. Every day plants and animals are becoming extinct as a result of the expansion of our modern society. The conservation efforts of governments may be able to preserve many forests and public lands for future generations to enjoy but they can't stop the lines waiting to get into these places from getting unbearably long. Camping requires uncrowded open spaces in order to be appreciated. Consequently, the opportunities for memorable camping experiences are getting fewer and farther between. What better reason to go camping than to enjoy the outdoors and the scenic wonders of nature while we still can? With popular outdoor destinations requiring reservations as much as a year in advance, the feeling of the outdoors is getting lost in the crowds. More and more it's becoming necessary to camp in the off-season or to travel great distances in order to find any peace or solitude. There are many valid reasons for escaping the routines of ordinary life, and camping facilitates that escape for many of us. We all need a return to nature now and then, and we all can benefit with a break from our routines. The thought of sitting around a campfire under a clear sky, gazing up at the stars and listening to the sounds of the night can strengthen our bodies, pacify our minds and restore our spirits. Camping is rejuvenating! Search for your youth and go camping! And, wherever you find peace, stop for a moment and reflect on how blessed you are to be able to live on this marvelous planet that we call campground Earth. Remember to share your love for the outdoors with family and friends and to help pass on some respect for nature to future generations. Here ́s whats inside the guide: Secrets to camping year round Choosing the ideal tent Finding the proper backpacks for your needs Picking the right sleeping bag How to build a fire Enjoying numerous camping activities Having fun while being responsible and safe Camping with children

A compelling case for why it's time for socialism Is socialism desirable? Is it even possible? In this concise book, one of the world's leading political philosophers presents with clarity and wit a compelling moral case for socialism and argues that the obstacles in its way are exaggerated. There are times, G. A. Cohen notes, when we all behave like socialists. On a camping trip, for example, campers wouldn't dream of charging each other to use a soccer ball or for fish that they happened to catch. Campers do not give merely to get, but relate to each other in a spirit of equality and community. Would such socialist norms be desirable across society as a whole? Why not? Whole societies may differ from camping trips, but it is still attractive when people treat each other with the equal regard that such trips exhibit. But, however desirable it may be, many claim that socialism is impossible. Cohen writes that the biggest obstacle to socialism isn't, as often argued, intractable human selfishness—it's rather the lack of obvious means to harness the human generosity that is there. Lacking those means, we rely on the market. But there are many ways of confining the sway of the market: there are desirable changes that can move us toward a socialist society in which, to quote Albert Einstein, humanity has "overcome and advanced beyond the predatory stage of human development."

This book is a collection of memories by a group of old Scout friends. In the centennial year (2017) of celebration of the founding of Camp Glen Gray, we cant recount periods other than when we were Scouts at Glen Gray, but our story might be considered fun reading by other generations. All of those involved in this writing project left the camp by the mid-1960s and have only returned for anniversariesor never. Regardless, the creation of our story brought old friends back together as though no time had passed. The sharing of events and anecdotes by email and critique of stories, as they unfolded, helped sharpen our memories. More often, we were surprised, as we found out about things we didnt know in the first place. While it might go without saying, it ought to be said, we, as Scouts, boys-to-teenagers-to-adults, experienced something unique that was the Scouting experience associated with Camp Glen Gray. To us, Camp Glen Gray is a special place in all the world. While its memories can be preserved in writing, pictures, and our own memories, it is a place that ought to be preserved so that others can look at Lake Vreeland from the bridge and have dreamsforever. In 2017, the bridge over the dam spillway was been removed. It is hoped that any proceeds from the sale of this book would go to restoring the 1950s cover picture view in our memories and in reality
