Book Description
Excerpt from Life of Turner Ashby In the preparation of this history of the life of Turner Ashby the author has tried to give a correct picture of the man and the soldier. Having drawn his information from different sources, he wishes to acknowledge his indebtedness to the vari ous historians of the Civil War who have written of Ashby. In 1867, the Rev. J as. B. Avirett, who was the Chaplain of the Seventh Virginia Cavalry, and who was intimately associated with Ashby during his entire military career, - wrote the Memoirs of General Turner Ashby and his Compeers, a book that has long been out of print. It was at the earnest solicitation of Dr. Avirett that the author was induced to prepare the present Life of Ashby.
