Book Description
Biography of convict John Croaker, who was transported to Australia for embezzlement. His arrival coincided with the foundation of the Bank of New South Wales and he was granted a ticket of leave and employed to advise on the bank's bookkeeping procedures. After receiving his unconditional pardon, he was involved in brewing, farming and malting. His involvement in banking, brewing and the law enable this biography to use Croaker as a window on the economic, judicial and social conditions of his age in England and New South Wales. Includes appendices, notes, bibliography and index. Booker is Group Archivist for Lloyds TSB Group, London. Craig is Professor of Accounting at the Australian National University.
