Glasgow, the Clyde and Loch Lomond

Book Description

Originally published in 1925, This guide uses the tops of tramway cars to lead tourists through the favoured districts of Glasgow, and rail, steamer and coach to reach the surrounding districts. The style is entirely practical, and remarkably informative. A particular feature is the habit of quoting the cost of buildings and structures, where known. The first underground cable railway in the world, the Glasgow District Subway, was built at a cost of GBP1,500,000. By the time of publication, the British railways had been brought into four groups, after the ravages of the Great War. The guide retains the original company names for the convenience of readers.
