Book Description
Excerpt from Mineral Deposits of the Cerbat Range, Black Mountains, and Grand Wash Cliffs, Mohave County, Arizona Owing to the desert conditions of the region - the scarcity of grass and water - a camp outfit was dispensed with and subsistence was obtained from the mining camps and prospectors. The general method of work employed was to make hasty sketch maps and sections of the various camps or mines, using a box compass and aneroid for determination of bearings and elevations, and tying the work wherever practicable to Land Office section or township corners, railroads, other surveys, and mining-claim monuments. The early reconnaissance maps of the Geological Survey, especially the Camp Mohave and Diamond Creek contour sheets, though for the most part too crude for local use, were found to be of material service in general. In a broad sense they represent fairly well the physical features of the region and are used as the base of the geologic map (pl. I) in the present report.
