Introduction to Advanced Manufacturing was written by two experienced and passionate engineers whose mission is to make the subject of advanced manufacturing easy to understand and a practical solution to everyday problems. Harik, Ph.D. and Wuest, Ph.D., professors who have taught the subject for decades, combined their expertise to develop both an applied manual and a theoretical reference that addresses many different needs. Introduction to Advanced Manufacturing covers the following topics in detail: • Composites Manufacturing • Smart Manufacturing • Additive Manufacturing • Computer Aided Manufacturing • Polymers Manufacturing • Assembly Processes • Manufacturing Quality Control and Productivity • Subtractive Manufacturing • Deformative Manufacturing Introduction to Advanced Manufacturing offers a new, refreshing way of studying how things are made in the digital age. With academics and industry professionals in mind, Introduction to Advanced Manufacturing paves the ground for those interested in the new opportunities of Industry 4.0.

The urgent need to keep pace with the accelerating globalization of manufacturing in the 21st century has produced rapid advancements in manufacturing technology, research and expertise. This book presents the proceedings of the 14th International Conference on Manufacturing Research (ICMR 2016), entitled Advances in Manufacturing Technology XXX. The conference also incorporated the 31st National Conference on Manufacturing Research, and was held at Loughborough University, Loughborough, UK, in September 2016. The ICMR conference is renowned as a friendly and inclusive environment which brings together a broad community of researchers who share the common goal of developing and managing the technologies and operations key to sustaining the success of manufacturing businesses. The proceedings is divided into 14 sections, including: Manufacturing Processes; Additive Manufacturing; Manufacturing Materials; Advanced Manufacturing Technology; Product Design and Development, as well as many other aspects of manufacturing management and innovation. It contains 92 papers, which represents an acceptance rate of 75%. With its comprehensive overview of current developments, this book will be of interest to all those involved in manufacturing today.

First published in 1998, this volume was designed to lead to an operational model of Advanced Manufacturing Technology (AMT) decision making which incorporated the mathematics of fuzzy set theory. The rapid advancement of robotics, automated technologies and software such as CAD and CAM have made such studies paramount. Here, analyses of a questionnaire survey and field study of major UK manufacturing companies together provide a simulating portrayal of AMT investment decision making and have been expanded upon with a model using fuzzy set theory.

The field of additive manufacturing is growing dynamically as the interest is persisting from manufacturing sector, including other sectors as well. Conceptually, additive manufacturing is a way to build parts without using any part-specific tooling or dies from the computer-aided design (CAD) file of the part. Second edition of Additive Manufacturing highlights the latest advancements in the field, taking an application oriented approach. It includes new material on traditional polymer based rapid prototyping technologies, additive manufacturing of metals and alloys including related design issues. Each chapter comes with suggested reading, questions for instructors and PowerPoint slides.

The 1980s have witnessed a tremendous growth in the field of computer integrated manufacturing systems. The other major areas of development have been computer-aided design, computer-aided manufacturing, industrial robotics, automated assembly, cellular and modular material handling, computer networking and office automation to name just a few. These new technologies are generally capital intensive and do not conform to traditional cost structures. The net result is a tremendous change in the way costs should be estimated and economic analyses performed. The majority of existing engineering economy texts still profess application of traditional analysis methods. But, as was men tioned above, it is clear that the basic trend in manufacturing industries is itself changing. So it is quite obvious that the practice of traditional economic analysis methods should change too. This book is an attempt to address the various issues associated with non-traditional methods for evaluation of advanced computer-integrated technologies. This volume consists of twenty refereed articles which are grouped into five parts. Part one, Economic Justification Methods, consists of six articles. In the first paper, Soni et at. present a new classification for economic justification methods for advanced automated manufacturing systems. In the second, Henghold and LeClair look at strengths and weaknesses of expert systems in general and more specifically, an ap plication aimed at investment justification in advanced technology. The third paper, by Carrasco and Lee, proposes an enhanced economic methodology to improve the needs analysis, conceptual design and de tailed design activities associated with technology modernization.

This book offers a timely snapshot of innovative research and developments at the interface between manufacturing, materials and mechanical engineering, and quality assurance. It covers a wide range of manufacturing processes, such as grinding, boring, milling, turning, woodworking, coatings, including additive manufacturing. It focuses on laser, ultrasonic, and combined laser–ultrasonic hardening treatments, and dispersion hardening. It describes tribology and functional analysis of coatings, separation, purification and filtration processes, as well as ecological recirculation and electrohydraulic activation, highlighting the growing role of digital twins, optimization and lifecycle management methods, and quality inspection processes. It also covers cutting-edge heat and mass transfer technologies and energy management methods. Gathering the best papers presented at the 3rd Grabchenko’s International Conference on Advanced Manufacturing Processes (InterPartner-2021), held in Odessa, Ukraine, on September 7–10, 2021, this book offers a timely overview and extensive information on trends and technologies in manufacturing, mechanical, and materials engineering, and quality assurance. It is also intended to facilitate communication and collaboration between different groups working on similar topics and to offer a bridge between academic and industrial researchers.
