This report reevaluates and updates studies for the Minnesota River at Chaska, Minnesota presented in a feasibility report dated August 1973. The current study uses the Water Resources Council's Principles and Standards as the basic planning guidelines. The feasibility report's recommendation to upgrade the existing city-owned levee and divert East and Chaska Creeks was authorized for construction in the 1976 Water Resources Development Act (Public Law 94-587). This study has established that flood damages at Chaska can be significantly reduced by a plan that meets the requirements for Federal participation. The modified authorized project includes 1.1 miles of upgraded levee, 0.8 miles of new levee and appurtenant works, 0.9 mile of diversion channel/tunnel combination for East Creek. These structural features would be supplemented by floodplain regulation and flood insurance for the residual floodplain areas.
