For the weary traveler or isolated expat, there is nothing like finding that special bar or caf+¬ that can make you feel welcome when you are far from home. While the desperate characters of Casablanca had Rick's Place, we have our favorites as well: Willi's Wine Bar in Paris, Jo's Bar in Prague, the Caf+¬ Greco Antico in Rome, or Magaritsa in Sophia. Harry's Bar in Venice is such a spot--and one of the most famous at that. Just off the Palazzo San Marco, Harry's Bar has played host to such literary luminaries as Truman Capote and Ernest Hemingway, cinema heavyweights the likes of Orson Welles, and rich and powerful guests such as the Aga Khan. Harry's Bar is the biography of this institution. In this witty memoir, Arrigo Cipriani gives us the view from behind the bar, sharing anecdotes about the operation of the Venetian watering hole, disclosing secrets of mixacology, and passing on the old stories of his father, who cofounded Harry's in 1931.

Fifty–three of today's most esteemed writers answer the question, "What makes this bar better than all other bars?" "A reminder that no matter where you are in the world there is always a place nearby that feels like home."" —The Paris Review A neighborhood bar can become as comfortable as a second home or a memory best avoided—a wild evening half remembered and better forgotten. But what makes a particular bar special, better than the one just down the street? The answers vary considerably as writers share personal stories of drinking establishments both local and exotic. Come Here Often is an intoxicating world tour from Antarctica to New York City, Kiribati to Minnesota, to the places that have inspired—and distracted— some of our favorite contemporary writers over many years and many more drinks. Funny, smart, and poignant, this anthology is a rare opportunity to do some serious armchair drinking with Andrew W.K., Rosie Schaap, Jack Hitt, Jim Shepard, Alissa Nutting, Duff McKagan, Laura Lippman, Craig Finn, Elissa Schappell, and many more.

Many people have endured horrific pain and suffering, my story may help them move forward in healing and understanding the world they live in. I don't have all the answers as to why there is child abuse; I'm still seeking out others to help me heal with my own childhood. For those of you who are survivors of child abuse and rape, may my words bring some enlightenment and strength in your daily struggles to move forward and grow. This story is written to thank so many people who have given their love to me, so I may live with my past. Sharing all the unconditional love from the world around me, may help the reader seek out unconditional love in their world. There really are nice people in the world and by reaching out and asking for help, will in turn help me learn about love. The reader may find comfort in my story, knowing that they are not alone with their own struggles pertaining to abuse. If I can't help them, perhaps we as a people can embrace their pain together and bring them the help they seek. My story is nothing new, as I write this I know in my heart there are innocent children crying to be heard. Let us be their voice, let us embrace their pain and help others in their journey to live in this world.

A FACE IN THE MOON is available through iUniverse, Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble.com, numerous other online book sites, and may be ordered through any bookstore. A FACE IN THE MOON is a look back at those lost days when colors seemed more vivid and when being in love seemed the only thing that mattered. The narrator, Jack Lohman, is an inexperienced twenty-two-year old, who was recently dumped by his first real girlfriend, and is soon to leave graduate school for who knows what. Enter Loni, a bright-eyed, free-spirited seventeen-year old who has had more than her share of experience -- she lost her virginity on her fourteenth birthday, has had more boyfriends and drugs than she cares to remember, as well as a mental breakdown that she's trying her best to forget. From the moment Jack meets Loni, his life begins to change. She teaches him how to laugh, and makes him feel, for perhaps the first time in his life, that he can be loved without judgment. Yet, ironically, it is Loni's harsh self-evaluation that paralyzes her at times, turning the carefree, uninhibited woman/child into a speechless, listless teenager who laments the days when life used to be more fun. She promises to tell Jack some day about her breakdown of the summer before but for now it's still too painful for her. Meanwhile, Jack loves her, but wonders if she'll ever fully let him into her life. A FACE IN THE MOON is a story about two young lovers struggling to find each other and their ways in the world. And when a series of events keeps them apart longer than expected, it becomes the story of whether their new love can survive the pressures of separation and emotional disturbance.

In this edgy, frenetic fictionalized memoir, a small-town girl turned linchpin of the Los Angeles club scene draws on her intoxicating but conflicted years working the door of Hollywood's hottest clubs to pen a striking story of ambition, loss, and love. After growing up in idyllic Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, seventeen-year-old Tobi leaves behind a childhood that was anything but idyllic and chases her dreams of modeling to New York. When the Big Apple turns out to be a bust, Tobi finds her way to L.A. and to the fringes of the film world elite. Hungry for an "in" she gets busy barhopping, party-going, and producer-hunting, eventually falling into a beautiful but complicated relationship with a famous actor. Though her own acting career never takes off, a chance encounter lands her a job working the door of an old friend's club. A whole new world opens up. Raw and revealing, Door to Door is both an unprecedented glimpse into the L.A. club scene and the riveting story of a girl who puts it all on the line for her chance to become somebody.
