Noesis

Book Description

In April 2004, the QueenĂ¢ (TM)s University Philosophy Society and Postgraduate Seminar Group hosted a two day conference open to postgraduates in which students could showcase their latest work in an informed and critical environment. In previous years, this same kind of conference had been held in Dublin and so this was a first not just for QueenĂ¢ (TM)s, but for Northern Ireland. Many papers presented over the two days went on to be published in noteworthy journals, an indication of the high quality on display. Given the number of papers presented, not all could be presented in this volume, but what follows is a selection of some of the best received papers, which cover areas as diverse as philosophy of science and mind, epistemology, political philosophy and ethics and a time span stretching from the classical era to modern analytic philosophy. With such a diverse group of philosophical minds gathered together, the chance to hear a new take on a familiar field, or to hear discussion of areas of philosophy one had never come across was not wasted. The diversity of the subject matter under investigation among these papers is the strength of this collection, as it introduces the reader to the vast range of important issues still pressing in philosophy today. The pieces are notable for the accessible way in which they get across effectively their often complex subject matter.

Noesis

Book Description

Noesis may be the most thought-provoking poetry you will ever read. The poems will take readers through a transcendent journey into the substratum of our collective consciousness and boldly engage contentious spiritual, social, and political conditions commonplace in today's global community. "Spirituality is present solely because human beings exist. The synthesis of spirituality (the energy force of unconditional love) is the extraordinary purpose of the human species." Rob Taylor, The Irreducible Primary Rob Taylor's poetry sharply captures how the widespread absence of spirituality is causative to conditions of child abuse, violence, and failures by government and religion; equally contributing to the apathy, pain, suffering, and despair infecting the human population and threatening any possibility for a harmonious existence within the species. In contrast, many of the poems are inspirational and suggest an alternate course by which we all join in the process of mindfulness and spiritual introspection. We have an immense potential to achieve unconditional love for each other. Peace lives in this place.

This book, I quote Roland Barthes is a Writerly one. It grew out of a passion for reading Literature, Aesthetics, Art, and Philosophy. The muse of thought rendered inspiration as a creative outlet. This work is an epic transmutation of culture, religion, philosophy, and art into a noesis of creative thinking. This work is born out of my passion to write. The philosophy of existentialism of Sartre and Camus is rewritten and reinterpreted as postmodern existential philosophies. The beauty of philosophy is churned into a literary flavor of art.
