Miocenske sedimentne kamnine, v katerih najdemo kremenične alge, so v Sloveniji redke. Odkrite so bile le v šestih krajših profilih v Savskem bazenu. Avtor je v knjigi natančno obdelal paleontologijo, stratigrafijo, paleoekologijo in paleobiogeografijo diatomej. Na podlagi datacij nahajališč mehkužcev v Krškem bazenu in razširjenosti nekaterih fosilnih skupin je zaključil, da je povezava Centralne Paratetide z vzhodnim in zahodnim Mediteranom obstajala tudi v zgornjem badeniju. Na temelju geografske razširjenosti vrste Pereiraea gervaisi domneva, da je povezava Centralne Paratetide z Mediteranom skozi slovenski koridor obstajala vse do konca badenija.
