The Art of Focused Conversation for Schools, Third Edition

Book Description

Why don’t kids learn? Why can’t students do higher order thinking? Why do educators have endless staff meetings with few results? How can parents and teachers communicate better? The pressure upon educators to teach more, to a wider range and number of students, with decreasing resources and supports makes it urgent to find tools to answer such questions. The Art of Focused Conversation for Schools demonstrates how the Focused Conversation method, widely used in organizations and businesses, can effectively be used in a K-12 educational setting. Each section deals with interactions among students, staff, and parents, and elaborates with over 100 sample conversations designed to make learning more meaningful, prevent and solve problems, and make communications in meetings more effective. Appendices showcase integrated curriculum examples where conversations have been used in unique combinations and list sample questions for each level of the conversation method. With a bibliography and index included, and patterned after its highly successful predecessor, The Art of Focused Conversation: 100 Ways to Access Group Wisdom in the Workplace, this book will be welcomed by parents, students, educators, and school administrators everywhere. The Institute of Cultural Affairs has over 40 years experience in more than 32 nations. Journey from Gauntlet to Paradise

Book Description

Journey from Gauntlet to Paradise begins with author Roger Vincent's early years as a curly-haired little boy on Grandma's Hill Farm and follows the author and his wife through their life travels. A thrilling, awe-inspiring journey awaits all who venture along with author Roger Vincent, and the love of his life, Betty May, as they journey through over sixty national parks along the way. We all live in critical times, times that are crucial and sometimes even dangerous. The Bible informs us that God is a God of exclusive devotion, but who can manage to do that? Vincent tells us not to worry because God doesn't expect us to exclusively devote ourselves to Him. If it were not for God excusing our errors, none of us would survive his inevitable day of reckoning! Through his life's journey, he comes to understand the fact that despite who we are, we will all face judgment day when we die. The question he poses is this: who among us has a strong and solid knowledge of God and the Bible? They are the ones who will draw closer to God.

THIS is Where You Come From

Book Description

What is going on? What has happened since we left? We are anguished because we don't recognize: The condition of the family, The condition of the church, The condition of schools and universities, The condition of the cities and neighborhoods, The condition of our beloved country, the United States of America. We are Tom and Tullos, and during our time on earth, we lived in New Orleans, Louisiana, the Deep South. We lived through some challenging times in America, growing up in the 1930s and 1940s and as adults raising a family in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. We departed in 1982 and 2002 respectively. In our feelings of anguish from our heavenly perch, we thought we should tell ya'll a few short stories. These stories were first intended for our grandchildren and great-grandchildren to let them know that the world doesn't define who they are. However, as we recollected the stories, we realized we loved beyond our own. So we thought we would share. Here are a few stories we believe should impact the things that anguish us, for such a time as this.
