Ori

Book Description

How do I learn my purpose in life? What does God want for me? How can I fulfill my potential? While Awo Falokun Fatunmbi touched on Ifa's perspective of these issues in previous books, in Ori he covers them on a whole new level. The Ifa Model of Consciousness fills holes in Western models of Self/Higher Self/God and empowers living a life fully aligned with our higher self and spirit. The illusion of separation is stripped away and the obvious truth becomes clear: We are spiritual beings having a physical experience. Ori offers tools to incorporate these deep understandings into a balanced life filled with all of the blessings that were intended us from the womb. Joy, Love, Children, Health & Wealth are our Spiritual rights. Unlike some Faiths which may see them as distractions, Ifa sees these earthly blessings as symptoms of living in alignment with spirit. Learn to have these symptoms too!

The Sacred Ifa Oracle

Book Description

The Ifa Oracle is an ancient African divination system that has been passed down orally through the generations. Like the hexagrams of the I Ching, the odus - or stories - that comprise the oracle are consulted for their sage advice and wisdom regarding life questions. Now, for the first time, the 256 sacred stories of the Ifa Oracle have been translated into English by Dr. Afolabi Epega, a fifth-generation Nigerian babalawo, or Ifa priest. Both classic and Western interpretations by Dr. Epega and American babalawo Philip Neimark clearly illuminate each translation, setting the context for using and understanding the power of Ifa wisdom in modern life.

Ifa in Yoruba Thought System

Book Description

Previous scholars of If have conveyed an impression that If is a characteristic social institution with only religious, ethnographical and sociological significance. In fact, If has been greatly misconceived as a mere religious and mythic discourse, devoid of any meaningful philosophical import. There is also the misconception that If is now largely anachronistic. In If in Yor b Thought System, the author shows that an adequate understanding of a text requires a transition from the manifest to the latent meaning and, therefore, analyses the If literary corpus with a view to identifying the aspects of If that are of philosophic relevance. He shows that fundamental philosophical issues, including nature of reality, knowledge, human conduct are embedded in If . With reflective interpretation of an appreciable number of If verses, the author also examines the utilitarian functions of If, offers good insight into important political ideas and values that are relevant to much of the political challenges in contemporary society and how scientific and technological development can be enhanced within the context of the Yor b oral tradition. In all, this book shows that the If literary corpus, as a complete philosophy, has the prospect of providing a firm ground for the resolution of some of the pressing problems confronting contemporary societies. This book is part of the African World Series, edited by Toyin Falola, Jacob and Frances Sanger Mossiker Chair in the Humanities, University of Texas at Austin.
