In Preaching Death, Lucy Bregman tracks the changes in Protestant American funerals over the last one hundred years. Early-twentieth-century natural immortality doctrinal funeral sermons transitioned to an era of silence and denial, eventually becoming expressive, biographical tributes to the deceased.
