The papers and abstracts included in this volume were presented at a special meeting on hydro-ecology and represent a broad spectrum of scientific studies conducted under the Arctic Environmental Strategy. The water component of the Strategy had specific objectives to establish an enhanced management regime through comprehensive monitoring networks and to develop specific studies to support sustainable development and ecosystem health. Topics of papers/abstracts include water and wastewater issues, water quality study design, stream chemistry, riverine inputs of contaminants, groundwater, evaporation at tailings ponds, ice break-up, mercury contamination, gold mine effluent, snow sublimation, the Wolf Creek Research Basin project, snowmelt and runoff, digital watershed analysis, and the state of knowledge of northern aquatic ecosystem science.
