Aunque el nacimiento de la red se produjo a fines de la llamada "década prodigiosa" (los años ´60), cuando se conectaron dos computadoras de la Universidad de California en Los Ángeles y de Stanford, en Menlo Park, Internet se desarrolla masivamente veinte años después de su aparición, a partir del lanzamiento por Berners-Lee de la world wide web en 1991. La Red es el mayor centro comercial del mundo, con tiendas que están abiertas las 24 horas del día, 365 días al año. Y las campañas publicitarias, también, evitando los formatos invasivos y la saturación de mensajes. El reto de la publicidad on line es adaptarse a los gustos del consumidor del nuevo milenio, que exige campañas más participativas, más divertidas, más inteligentes.
