Introduction to Patents Information

Book Description

This guide is a practical introduction to searching for patent information and is aimed at both the interested beginner and the more experienced user who can employ the guide as a reference tool. It explains how patent documents evolve and what they consist of; the numeration and structure of the patent documents of six major patenting authorities; and how to carry out subject searching, with an extensive appendix on major databases. There are many illustrations taken from the actual patent specifications.

Introduction to Patents Information

Book Description

This guide was originally published to fill a clear need for a practicable and readable primer to patents as a source of technical information. The good response that it has received led to publishing a second, and now a third edition. It was originally meant as a sourcebook for the British Library's Science Reference and Information Service (SRIS) patents seminars. These origins are reflected in a certain bias toward British interests, but patent documentation for the United States, Germany, and Japan as well as the international systems all have their own chapters. The guide is divided into three main sections. Section 1 explains the main points of the patent documentation of six patent offices: Britain, the European Patent Convention, the Patent Cooperation Treaty patents, the United States, Germany, and Japan. Section 2 covers finding patent information (a new chapter), patent classification, and patent information resources in the United Kingdom. Section 3 consists of appendices covering online, compact disc and Internet sources, a bibliography, a glossary, and lists of INID and country codes. Extensively revised to reflect changes in documentation and new sources, this third edition contains many new examples of front pages from patent specifications.

**** The Brit counterpart to Sheehy (in which it is recommended). The new edition places the author, title, subject indices in each volume. Many entries cite reviews from other sources. Rather tiresome recitation of selected chapter contents. 6,000 entries with references in the annotations to one or two thousand further books. A Continuing Systematic Program on Tables of Thermophysical Properties of Materials

Book Description

The work reported on consists of both data tables projects and scientific documentation efforts. The data tables projects are on the thermal conductivity, specific heat, thermal radiative properties (emittance, reflectance, absorptance, transmittance), thermal diffusivity, and thermal linear and volumetric expansion of elements, ferrous and nonferrous alloys, intermetallic, semiconducting, and nonmetallic compounds, cermets, ceramics, mixtures, composites, systems, polymers, etc. and on the thermal conductivity, specific heat, and viscosity of fluids and fluid mixtures.
