To the many who search out greatness in the numerical strength, eclat, and general worldly influence of a people, it may appear a matter of wonder why the Brethren's Church should be at all deserving of a place in history; since the space it occupies in society is so small, the influence it wields so unpopular, and the decorations of its exterior worship so little in accordance with the sensuous wants of the times we live in, as well as of all time. The only answer to this is, that the existence of the people called United Brethren is a great historical fact, in the present and the past.
