Germans, British, French, Scandinavians, Scotch-Irish, old-stock Americans, and many others -- the nationalities and origins of Missouri's rural population are as diverse as those of any state in the country. The factors that brought the various groups to Missouri are explored, as are their cultural backgrounds, whether in the Old World or the eastern United States.
