Excerpt from A Souvenir of the Trans-Continental Excursion of Railroad Agents, 1870 The excursion of September, 1870, of railroad officials over the Pacific Railways, was so perfect and so pleasurable to its participants, that, before the breaking up of the party at Omaha, many of them requested the author to compile and write a brief history of that wonderful trip. The writer pretends to no peculiar skill as a chronicler of events. He hopes, in these few pages, only to bring to mind and preserve some of the pleasurable incidents, and a general outline of what was to the participants the brightest and most enjoyable tour of their lives. The route, which the party traversed, has in guide books and by correspondents been described, both generally and in detail.
