'he will need no culture which will separate him, by refinement and fastidiousness, from the humblest and most ignorant; he will need one which will put him in sympathy with the most refined and intelligent. He will, in short, need, not so much an education that is technical and professional, as one that is broad and liberal, an education for man, as man.
