Future Texts: Subversive Performance and Feminist Bodies’ area of investigation is situated within popular culture, not as a place of critique or celebration, but rather as a contested site that crosses an array of media forms, from music video, to games, to global journalism. While there is an established tradition in feminist writing founded on experimental expression that disrupts patriarchal culture, it has too often failed to consider issues of race and class. This is evident in the dilemma faced by black feminists who, alienated from dominant feminism’s failure to consider their experience, have been forced to choose whether they were black or women first. Bending Bodies

This title was first published in 2003. The contributing authors have sought to integrate a gender perspective into their respective fields without isolating it from other theoretical accounts. The chapters attempt to employ insights from feminist work and gender studies in general, yet insist on criticizing monolithic accounts of masculinity and elaborating on more differentiated, historically and socially embedded accounts of men's lives and their construction of masculinities. The volume is the result of interdisciplinary workshops focusing on questions of male sexuality, the male body and masculine representations - primarily investigating the relationship between change and continuity within western patriarchal society and the theoretical (rather than political) implications of the new reserach in men and masculinities. This volume differs from the first in that it deals with the construction of masculine identities on an individual level - the individual man's relationship with his own body and sexuality.

Hindi Cinema is full of instances of repetition of themes, narratives, plots and characters. By looking at 60 years of Hindi cinema, this book focuses on the phenomenon as a crucial thematic and formal code that is problematic when representing the national and cinematic subject. The book looks at how cinema presents liminal and counter-modern identities emerging within repeated modern attempts to re-enact traumatic national events so as to redeem the past and restore a normative structure to happenings.
