Surgery of the Adrenal Gland

Book Description

This book offers a comprehensive description of the main surgical treatments for adrenal tumors, encompassing both open surgery and laparoscopy. Introductory chapters cover surgical anatomy, pathology, the clinical diagnostic pathway, the role of different imaging techniques, and perioperative management. After discussion of general principles of adrenal surgery and instrumentation, individual surgical techniques are described in detail with the aid of step-by-step color photos and schematic drawings. For each procedure, careful attention is paid to indications and contraindications and to the most frequent complications. A further feature is the inclusion of numerous helpful decision-making algorithms for diagnosis and treatment. The text is structured according to the principles of "best practice" and the guidelines on evidence-based medicine and will thus be a valuable tool for practitioners in their clinical work.

Atlas of Adrenal Surgery

Book Description

This atlas is designed to present a comprehensive and state-of the-art approach to single surgical procedure - adrenal glands surgery. The idea of this surgical atlas is to bring expertise of adrenal surgery to all surgeons performing, or learning how to perform successful adrenalectomy procedure, and to illustrate different techniques of adrenalectomy that are performed by different renown surgeons. The atlas illustrates several different approaches to adrenalectomy, which include more commonly used anterior lateral adrenalectomy and more advanced newer techniques of posterior retroperitoneoscopic and robotic adrenalectomies. This atlas emphasizes different approaches and ways to perform the same procedure. Specifically how the same procedure could be successfully completed by different surgeons with specific details of each technique. Each approach is presented by three different expert-surgeons illustrating three different techniques of procedure, including single-site approach. Different surgeons have different “tricks” on how to perform this type of procedure successfully. Each chapter presents procedures that are performed and illustrated by a different single surgeon. All authors are members of American Association of Endocrine Surgeons (AAES) and are experts in this specific technique. This atlas includes 18 chapters and illustrates traditional open approach, anterior lateral right and left adrenalectomy approaches, and more advanced state-of the-art posterior retroperitoneoscopic right and left adrenalectomies (including single port procedure) and robotic adrenalectomies. The text includes extensive illustrations and links to video of all procedures making this an interactive text. Atlas of Adrenal Surgery represents the first single source to provide information on technique and outcomes for a diversity of endocrine surgeons, minimally invasive laparoscopic surgeons, surgical oncologists, urologists and general surgeons.

Adrenal Imaging

Book Description

Imaging of the adrenal gland has made tremendous progress in the last decade as new technologies continue to evolve. Adrenal Imaging highlights the pertinent clinical and pathological information that underpins the accurate interpretation and use of adrenal imaging. Written by a prestigious group of international contributors, individual chapters in Adrenal Imaging serve as a relevant and up-to-date reference of adrenal imaging findings, algorithms and techniques in CT, MR nuclear medicine, intervention and trauma. Summary sections at the end of each chapter illuminate key teaching points to enhance retention.

Endocrine Surgery

Book Description

The second edition of Endocrine Surgery is a comprehensive update of the previous edition published in 2003. Edited by three leading authorities in the field of surgical endocrinology, the book encompasses the clinical, imaging, nuclear, molecular, technological and evidence-based principles that are applied in the diagnosis and treatment of all categories of endocrine tumors. Authored by experts from across the globe, this textbook reflects the best international clinical practice and also provides an outstanding educational resource. With full color illustrations throughout, the new edition emphasizes contemporary approaches in successive stages including: pituitary endocrine tumors; pathology and pathophysiology of pulmonary neuroendocrine cells; surgery of endocrine tumors of the lungs and thymus; robotic endocrine surgery; molecular testing of thyroid nodules; pediatric surgery for neuroblastoma and ganglioneuroma; multiple endocrine neoplasia; retroperitoneoscopic adrenalectomy; radionuclide imaging of carcinoid tumors, pancreas and adrenals; serotonin-induced cardiac valvular disease and surgical treatment; multimodal management of primary and metastatic neuroendocrine tumors; pathophysiology and surgery of Type II diabetes; post-bariatric surgery hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia; and surgical management of metabolic syndrome. Endocrine Surgery 2e provides the clinician with a definitive resource to reach curative outcomes in the treatment of patients with endocrine pituitary, thyroid, and parathyroid entities. Further coverage of broncho-pulmonary, adrenal, pancreatic, and intestinal neoplasia is also included, making this the definitive textbook on the subject.
