Hymnal for the Public and Private Use of Our Soldiers and Sailors (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from Hymnal for the Public and Private Use of Our Soldiers and Sailors This book of tunes provides the music to the hymns and chants included in A Prayer Book for Soldiers and Sailors, issued by The Bishop White Prayer Book Society early in 1917 and already widely distributed. In order to make the hymns most serviceable to the men in our Army and Navy, the music has been pitched within the singing range of the average man; and has been supplied with parts for tenor and bass voices. These tunes have also been scored for military bands by a Government Commission. We desire to make grateful acknowledgment for the permission to use these tunes granted by the Church Pension Fund and others who hold copyrights, as noted on the various pages. We are indebted to Mr. Burton T. Scales, Director of Music, Girard College and Glee Club of the University of Pennsylvania, for his skilful work in arranging the counter point settings.
