Jungle Comics #100

Book Description

JUNGLE COMICS #100The main character associated with the title is Kaanga. He appeared in every issue of Jungle Comics. When Kaanga was a child his parents died in the jungle and he was raised by apes. The reader never gets to know his real name or his ancestry, but the jungle is where Kaanga feels most at home. In the first issue Kaanga meets his mate Ann, who is a Jane clone, after he rescues her from a white slave trader named Bill Blackton. Ann then joins Kaanga in his jungle existence. After nearly ten years Kaanga was given his own title in Spring, 1949. This ran for 20 issues until the Summer of 1954. One of the reasons for the series demise was the formation of The Comics Code Authority, a self-regulatory body that was formed because of moral concerns about the contents of many of the comics of the time. As much of Fiction House's material involved images of scantily clad women they withdrew from the market. Nick Cardy: The Artist at War

Book Description

Renowned commercial illustrator, designer and comicbook artist on Tomahawk, Aquaman and Teen Titans Nick Cardy, now in his 90s, has been drawing all his life. And thank goodness for that, as these recently unearthed sketches contribute not to to our pop culture history - as do his other works - but to our history Before beginning his career in comics, Nick was one of the young Americans shipped overseas to fight in World War II. He proceeded to do what he did best - carry a sketchbook and document his time in the conflict from beginning to end. From his basic training in the US, Cardy was deployed with the 3rd Armored 'Spearhead' Division, and fought through Europe (receiving two Purple Hearts on the way), ending up in Paris after VE Day. His sketches - in pencil, pen and watercolor - are extraordinarily vivid, and capture not only the humor and camaraderie, but also the horror of war. Nick Cardy: The Artist At War presents the entire contents of Cardy's wartime sketchbook, alongside his own commentary. It's a chronicle of one man's journey, but one that speaks for millions.

Teen Titans: The Silver Age Vol. 1

Book Description

Only a short while after the first superheroes entered the scene, they were followed by a host of scrappy teenage sidekicks. Batman had Robin. The Flash had Kid Flash. Green Arrow had Speedy. Aquaman had Aqualad. By 1964 there were enough of these young heroes-in-training to form their own team—the Teen Titans! This youthful Junior Justice League came together to aid other youngsters and stomp out evil wherever they found it—all with the style and slang of the swinging ’60s. Dig it? TEEN TITANS: THE SILVER AGE OMNIBUS VOLUME 1 collects stories from THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD #54 and #60, SHOWCASE #59 and TEEN TITANS #1-11, from such talented writers and artists as Nick Cardy and Bob Haney.

Teen Titans: The Silver Age Vol. 2

By the time the Silver Age rolled around, teenage sidekicks had been a staple of superhero comics for a long time. But as popular as they were, these young heroes-in-training never considered forming a junior Justice League. That all changed with the debut of Teen Titans in 1964 when Robin, Kid Flash and Aqualad united for the first time to fight crime and injustice. Later joined by Wonder Girl and Speedy, the Teen Titans quickly became the most iconic team of super-teens of all time. Teen Titans: The Silver Age Volume 2 collects Teen Titans #12-24 and features an amazing array of talented creators such as Bob Haney, Marv Wolfman, Len Wein, Nick Cardy, Neal Adams, Gil Kane and Wally Wood.

Book Description

This penultimate work in John Lent's series of bibliographies on comic art gathers together an astounding array of citations on American cartoonists and their work. Author John Lent has used all manner of methods to gather the citations, searching library and online databases, contacting scholars and other professionals, attending conferences and festivals, and scanning hundreds of periodicals. He has gone to great length to categorize the citations in an easy-to-use, scholarly fashion, and in the process, has helped to establish the field of comic art as an important part of social science and humanities research. The ten volumes in this series, covering all regions of the world, constitute the largest printed bibliography of comic art in the world, and serve as the beacon guiding the burgeoning fields of animation, comics, and cartooning. They are the definitive works on comic art research, and are exhaustive in their inclusiveness, covering all types of publications (academic, trade, popular, fan, etc.) from all over the world. Also included in these books are citations to systematically-researched academic exercises, as well as more ephemeral sources such as fanzines, press articles, and fugitive materials (conference papers, unpublished documents, etc.), attesting to Lent's belief that all pieces of information are vital in a new field of study such as comic art.
