This special re-print edition of the English translation of Husam al-Dawlah Timur Mirza's book "The Baz-nama-yi Nasiri: A Persian Treatise on Falconry" has not been available to fans of falconry since it first appeared on the scene back in 1906. Husam al-Dawlah Timur Mirza famous work on falconry was originally published in 1285. Put up in Tehran and published in Persian, early devotees of falconry demanded reprints of this book for centuries, but their cries for the information contained in it went unheard until Douglas Craven Phillott of London finally translated the work into English and it was subsequently published in 1906. Copies of the translation were limited to only 500 copies and over a century later, the few surviving copies of the book are known to sell for as 2,500 British Sterling (over $3000 USD). The demand for this rare book has brought forth this much needed reprint of this famous classic falconry work. The Baz-nama-yi Nasiri: A Persian Treatise on Falconry will shed considerable light on the history of the management of hawks and falcons for the sport of falconry, including age old techniques once used by early Persian falconers. Note: This public domain edition is a perfect facsimile of the original edition and is not set in a modern typeface. As a result, some type characters and images might suffer from slight imperfections or minor shadows in the page background. This edition is reprinted in accordance to Federal Law."

A “well-written, engaging detective story” (Kirkus Reviews, starred review) about a rogue who trades in rare birds and their eggs—and the wildlife detective determined to stop him. On May 3, 2010, an Irish national named Jeffrey Lendrum was apprehended at Britain’s Birmingham International Airport with a suspicious parcel strapped to his stomach. Inside were fourteen rare peregrine falcon eggs snatched from a remote cliffside in Wales. So begins a “vivid tale of obsession and international derring-do” (Publishers Weekly), following the parallel lives of a globe-trotting smuggler who spent two decades capturing endangered raptors worth millions of dollars as race champions—and Detective Andy McWilliam of the United Kingdom’s National Wildlife Crime Unit, who’s hell bent on protecting the world’s birds of prey. “Masterfully constructed” (The New York Times) and “entertaining and illuminating” (The Washington Post), The Falcon Thief will whisk you away from the volcanoes of Patagonia to Zimbabwe’s Matobo National Park, and from the frigid tundra near the Arctic Circle to luxurious aviaries in the deserts of Dubai, all in pursuit of a man who is reckless, arrogant, and gripped by a destructive compulsion to make the most beautiful creatures in nature his own. It’s a story that’s part true-crime narrative, part epic adventure—and wholly unputdownable until the very last page.
